Become A Recruiter



Companies receive hundreds, even thousands of unscreened resumes when they run ads in daily papers. However, the best candidate rarely comes through an ad. Without the help of recruiters the hiring process would be unorganized, slow and ineffective.

Third party recruiters can work on their own or through an agency. They act as an independent contact for temporary, part time or full time employment opportunities. This includes agencies that refer or recruit for profit or non-profit. It also includes agencies that collect student information to be disclosed to employers for recruitment and employment purposes.




Recruiters can specialize in client relationships only (sales or business development), in finding candidates (recruiting or sourcing), or in both areas.

Third party recruiters are relied upon by their clients to attract and hire the best candidates for the positions. Their tasks include: screening, interviewing and occasionally testing applicants. They may also confirm references and widen job offers.

Requirements

Majority of employers look for college graduates who hold a degree in human resources personal administration or industrial and labour relations. Some employers prefer college graduates who have extensive business and technical experience.

Because a recruiter needs to have an interdisciplinary background, a mixture of courses in the behavioral science, or social science field is useful. Those looking to become recruiters are advised to take courses in psychology, training and development, recruitment, sociology, business, economics, labor law, compensation and statistics. Being fully IT literate is important because recruiters now utilize internet recruiting to help their recruiting efforts.

In addition to formal education, recruiters should be able to perform with professionalism and represent their organizations accurately. Recruiters are required to have extensive knowledge about the company and its personal policies, so they can provide information regarding working conditions, wages and promotions with perspective employees.

They must have excellent communication and customer service skills, be detail oriented and be able to work in a multi-tasked, fast paced environment. Additionally, recruiters must be familiar about laws and guidelines regarding equal employment opportunities (EEO).

Wages

Third party recruiters charge for services using one of the following payment structures:

1. Applicant paid fee-the applicant pays the third party recruiter a fee based upon the applicants starting salary once the applicant is placed with an employer.

2. Employer paid fee-The employee pays a flat fee to the recruiter for services performed in the recruiting of individuals to work for the employer, or the employer pays the recruiter a percentage of the applicant’s starting salary once the applicant is hired by the employer.

The annual average for recruiters is $38,000 per year. Those in high percentage earn $68,000 per year. Earnings vary depending on education, experience and field. For instance, a scientific recruiter earns about $37,000 per year while technical recruiters make about $62,000 per year.

Recruiting is highly competitive field, not only for those who currently have jobs and are recruiters, but for those looking to become recruiters. Although there are many companies who are outsourcing to work at home recruitments, they often have strict requirements. It is possible to make good money as a work at home recruiter but you will need to have proper education and some experience in order to be successful.
